Abbot Elementary Season 2
Hey everyone and welcome, today we will be talking about season 2 of Abbott Elementary. Fun Fact Quinta Brunson not only stars in this show but also created it and co writes for it. This season came out in 2022 and stars Quinta Brunson, Tyler James Williams, and Janelle James and was created by Quinta Brunson. So without further ado let’s get right into it.
Abbott Elementary follows the teachers at the poorly funded Abbott Elementary in Philadelphia. We see all the ups and downs that these teachers have to face in their day to day.
Abbot Elementary is a mockumentary. It has similar vibes to The Office, Parks and Recreation, or Modern Family.
Some of the faces from this show are some you may have seen in other things. Quinta Brunson was in A Black Lady Sketch Show, Tyler James Williams was in Everybody Hates Chris, Janelle James is in Central Park, Lisa Ann Walter was in the Parent Trap, Chris Perfetti was in Bonding, Sheryl Lee Ralph was in Moesha, and William Stafford Davis was in Ray Donovan.
Abbot Elementary had a very strong season one and they really kept up the momentum this season. Im not a fan of the 22 episode seasons usually but with this show I wanted as many as I can get and they were all worth it.
I love that this show takes place at a predominately black elementary school and how we get to see how these teachers do everything to support these kids no matter what. I love the role that these teachers play especially the black ones because one thing I feel that they go out their way to do is to make sure their kids succeed and feel seen. I love that show focuses on this and shows how nice it is to have black students feel supported while also showing that having a good set of teachers that care can really make a difference.
I must say that every character is great, even the kids they get really add to the show. Each character is different and the show does a great job of letting each and every one shine. Whoever was in charge of casting honestly gets gold stars across the board because I can’t find one fault in the cast. I’m always so invested in how they interact with each other and how even though they may not always get along, they are the ones who know what each other actually deals with at work. The show highlights how over time you find out who you can turn to when you need help and showing how you can utilize their skills.
I think a lot of us know how much teachers have to go through and while this show throws in comedic elements there are other topics that the show highlights that shows how stressful the job can be. It shows dealing with students and parents, pressure to change to a charter school that won’t try to help all the students in need, Their personal lives clashing with their work lives, lack of funding, and being underpaid to name a few. This show could’ve just been a comedy that made you laugh but it decided to be more than that and bring to light some of the issues that teachers face in America to the forefront and show just how hard they are trying to hold it together. The show also supports real teachers and they did so before this season even started by donating a portion of their marketing budget to underfunded teachers which shows that the show is even highlighting these issues the the camera is off.
With showing what these teachers go through, we get a lot of heartfelt moments which I love to see. It does a great job of adding these moments at the right place and really had me smiling or maybe tearing up. One of my favorite heartfelt moments was Janine and Gregory slowly realizing they have feelings for each other.
Never thought I would be saying this but holiday themed episodes are great. We got a halloween one filled with some great costumes and a Christmas one which really showed everyone getting into the spirit. The holiday episodes make me feel like I’m celebrating with them.
My Favorite part of the show is Ava. She is the worst principal but in every scene I am laughing so hard at whatever she says. Janelle James delivery is great and Ava is a woman of many skills and we learn throughout the show what those skills are. You never know if Ava will be helpful or disrupt your class for something that is 100 percent unimportant. She keeps everyone on their toes and you never know what she will do next.
Abbot Elementary is a gem from the cast to the topics they talk about. This show deserves all the accolades because it’s just that good. If you haven’t seen abbott elementary then I will say you are slacking and you should just take the day off and go watch all of it.
