Five Nights at freddys

Hey everyone and welcome today we will be talking about the film Five Nights at Freddys. Fun Fact, Five Nights at Freddys is based off a video game which has 9 games in the series with additional spinoffs, a novel series, and an anthology series. This movie came out in 2023 and stars Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, and Piper Rubio and was directed by Emma Tammi. So without further ado let’s get right into it.

Five Nights at Freddys follows Mike Schmidt who starts a new job as a security guard at an old abandoned family dinner known as Freddy Fazbears Pizza to be able to provide for his little sister.  Mikes brother was kidnapped years before and while he is at Freddys he has more vivid dreams of the day it happened and is visited by some ghost as well. Mike soon learns that Freddys isn’t all that it seems when the animatronic come to life.

Five nights at Freddys is a supernatural horror film. It has similar vibes to The Black Phone, Annabelle, or Chucky.

Five nights at Freddy seemed like a interesting movie and to be honest I didn’t do much research and didn’t know that it was a whole franchise with some die hard fans until I was in the movies. There were easter eggs throughout the film that tie back to the video games and I didn’t catch them because I didn’t play the games but the people in my movie were loosing their mind whenever they came up. Even if you didn’t play the game, you will be able to still follow along and understand what is happening. One thing I must say is that Freddys reminded me of Chuck E Cheese so much .

Josh Hutcherson did a good job portraying this guy who is stuck in the past but trying to keep each other together in the present. He Is hanging by a thread but really is trying to keep his sister away from his aunt and is trying to keep his job. At the end I felt like he got partial closure about his brother because like we know who killed him but we don’t know where the body is or why he isn’t a ghost.

Also every time there is a kid in a horror film I just know they are going to do something dumb in which the main person will have to save them. Everything was going down hill but to make it worst his sister decided to go to Freddys after her brother said no and then we see the aunt who was baby sitting was laid out on the floor. Luckily she knows how to communicate with the animatronics so in the end she made up for it but when she didn’t follow instructions I was a bit upset.

Speaking of their aunt they really didn’t even try to finish her storyline. Like is she dead or just knocked out but also is no one going to ask questions about the people she hired to trash the place going missing. I feel like that was a big plot point that was kind of glossed over that should have been focused on a little bit more considering that the custody battle was a big plot point of the story.

I love seeing Matthew Lillard in this horror role as Steve aka William Afton who we come to find out is the serial killer who not only killed the kids at Freddys but also killed Mikes brother. In the beginning of the film he is a career counselor and he is the one that gave Mike the job but from the way he acted when he gave the job you knew that William knew Mike and something wasn’t right. I think That scene kind of laid out for me how the film was going to go because in that moment I knew that he was the one who kidnapped Mike’s brother and had something to do with the dead kids. I wish that they were able to hide that a little more so him being the killer at the end was a bigger surprise. I did love though how the spring mechanism on the suit ended up being his downfall.

The plot of this movie was super predictable which made some of the big surprises fall a little flat for me but I was also happy that I was right. Like I said I knew that William or Steve was going to be the yellow rabbit but also had a feeling that Vanessa knew something the moment she stepped on scene because it just seemed weird that a police officer would be at a random arcade, spending her whole shift hanging with the security guard and I just knew she knew something about those kids and what happened there. Also the moment they showed how the spring loaded mechanism in the suit worked I knew that is where the missing kids were.

Freddy Fazbears Pizza was a good location to further bring on the spooky vibes. Like you could clearly tell just by looking at that place that there was some creepy stuff that was going to happen to Mike. The animatronic mascots made it even creepier even before knowing they were being controlled by ghost. I do think this whole idea of this type of horror film is refreshing and even though it’s not the best execution they did a good job with the setting and adding in things that will make it more creepy. Also the ballon boy toy that kept popping up was scary and weird and I wondered if it was tied to the ghost kids.

I think my favorite part of Five Nights at Freddys is when the people come to trash the place and get picked off one by one. I just thought it was funny that they thought it was going to be easy but the animatronics were like well you guys won’t be leaving here. I didn’t care for any of those characters so having them out the picture didn’t bother me.

Five nights at Freddys is not a perfect movie but it is fun. It has a couple of plot holes as well as the story being predictable but I think it’s a neat idea and I enjoyed the cast.
