My Adventures With Superman

Hey everyone and welcome today we will be talking about the show My Adventures with Superman.Fun Fact, this is Jack Quaids second time voicing a character in a DC project as he voices Superman here and he voiced Alberto Falcone in Batman: The Long Halloween. This show came out in 2023 and stars Jack Quaid, Alice Lee, and Ishmael Sahid and was developed by Jake Wyatt. So without further ado let’s get right into it.

My Adventures with Superman follows Clark Kent starting his journey as Superman. He fights many villains who somehow always end up getting tied to this mysterious general and Task Force X.  Clark is also trying to figure out his own origins and why he was sent to earth.

My Adventures with Superman is an animated action show. It has similar vibes to the Batman, Young Justice, or Superman: The Animated Series.

You may recognize some of the voices in this show. Jack Quaid is in the Boys, Alice Lee was in Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, Kari Wahlgren was in Winx Club, Reid Scott was in Veep, Zehra Fazal was in Young Justice: Outsiders, Chris Parnell was in 30 rock, Debra Wilson was in Mad TV, Joel De la Fuente was in The man in the High Castle, and Lucas Grabeel was in High School Musical.

I have always been a firm believer that DC animated projects are better and this show helped reaffirm that. My adventures with Superman serves as this origin story for Superman, like his year one of putting on the cape and learning how to be a hero which is cool to see him as this new hero and not someone with lots of expertise.

Like I mentioned Superman in this show is new to using his powers and so this means that he actually doesn’t even know all his powers or the extent of how powerful he is. It was cool to see him struggling with this and slowly figuring it all out and even by the end of the season we see that there is so much for him to learn. To add onto to this we see some villains that go on to be huge foes for Superman but at this point they are pretty novice. I love seeing everyone getting more and more powerful.

Superman has a lot of iconic villains, more than the typical superhero and while they do introduce a lot the show I’m glad that there are plenty of his most popular ones that they haven’t shown and some that they hinted at for later seasons.

Superman is one of the first superheroes I remember seeing juggling his superhero identity with his normal one and I’m glad that this show incorporated this as well because it’s a huge part of his character. I loved how Lois and Jimmy kinda put it together who he was because I always thought it was weird that these reporters who are very good at their job could never tell they were working with superman. I do think the secret identity Is important so this show doesn’t have everyone knowing who he is, just a small few who are close to him.

Speaking of Jimmy and Lois , it’s refreshing seeing them having more depth to their characters. With Lois she may not have powers but she is always on the front line fighting for what she believes in and they really show her dedication to being a reporter, even more than the guys. It was shocking to figure out that her dad was the general but I was happy that they used this for the general to see that Superman is not the villain. Jimmy on the other hand always feels left out and he has a blog which becomes super popular and also makes him a millionaire at the end of the season. Both of them still support clark and help move his story forward but I’m glad they we learn more about them and what they’re doing in there day to day.

Dc animated projects have been experimenting with different styles of animation and this show is no different. I really enjoy seeing these different animation styles and seeing how they animate the characters differently and their actions. This show uses an anime style of animation which seemed refreshing and a bigger risk than the traditional animation styles.

I think my favorite part of this show was the first time Clark stepped in to fight to save his friends. He has no suit, some really bad disguise and his powers which he still is very inexperienced using. He manages to take down these robots and save his friends while keeping his disguise. To me this also felt like the moment where he realized that he’s been given these powers and he can use them for good which is what he wants to do.

My Adventures with Superman is a great show in the DC roster that introduces us to so many characters and truly brings in the action. Im looking forward to more episodes hopefully because I really enjoyed this show and want to see what they do next with the villain teased at the end of the last episode as well as the development of Superman.
